SUSAN MYRICK - IN MEMORIUM

THE SUSAN MYRICK MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION

When Sue alighted from the plane in Hollywood, a wire awaited her from “those angel fools who came to Atlanta to see me off.” It read:

Social life died in Macon last nite. Lite of the party went out. No barbecue today; turnips and chitterlings. Crepe drapes Cherry Street today. Repeat aloud ten times and roll em baby. May the spirit of Southern chivalry hover over you wherever you may go—even to the Belles (not Watling) and Colonels of your set.

The “angel fools” called themselves the Susan Myrick Memorial Association. They gathered together at times to lament Sue’s absence and to plot her return. None knew she hated barbecue and when she finally came home, they welcomed her on the road with flags, paraded into Macon with a police escort, and threw a barbecue.
